Welcome to the Advanced Computing and e-Science group of the Physics Institute of Cantabria (IFCA), a joint centre with the combined effort of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Cantabria (UC) in Santander, Spain.
Our group was created in 2010 as a response to the growing scientific needs of powerful computing capacities and techniques. Since then, it has steadily expanded both its physical and human resources. At present, IFCA houses Spain’s third most powerful supercomputer, Altamira.
We offer “enhanced” Science (or e-Science) to researchers from several research institutes across different countries. Our services enable scientists to interact through the network, sharing computing resources to support their larger needs for simulation, data storage and transfer, analysis, and collaborative work.
Our group is specialized in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Cloud computing, Grid computing and High-Performance Computing (HPC). Since our founding in 2010, we have taken part in numerous European science projects oriented towards machine learning structures. Currently, we are leading the DEEP Hybrid DataCloud project, embedded within the European Open Science Cloud.
We are strongly committed to making Science accessible to the general public. Our group actively contributes to European Open Science initiatives, such as EOSC. Hence, our publications are free to access and our software development is built upon open-source architectures.
